So below we have a fine example of a late 90s BMX racing machine. The frame is a carbon fiber Mongoose Solution and was made in 1997. I sweated this frame so much when I was younger, and why not? I believe it weighed under 4 lbs. and was so clean looking without any welds. Of course I changed my mind when I saw a couple of headtubes explode off the frame when dudes cased big jumps. It was still a pretty sweet frame.
Thanks to my friend Adam for showing me this beast. He's had it since '98 and hopefully he'll get it out on the new BMX track at the Perkins Road X-TREME!!!! park.

i pictures from an epic adventure in Jackson, Ms. with Dow, Adrian, Nano and myself.
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 06:46PM
The only pictures I took were when we checked out the trails the rest of the time I was either shredding or filming people shred.

We basically made a little trip to Jackson since Dow wanted to do a road trip instead of a bachelor party so thats what we did. It went pretty well camped at Lefleaur Bluffs which was pretty dang close to everything and only 13 bucks a night for 2 cars a tent and a spot next to the lake with power, shower, and pissers. Far better then the ol couch or motel 6. Here is a couple highlights: Nano's first time camping and he was def a trooper first one up and out of the tent getting the fire started and all, I guess he slept pretty good on the sleeping bag I got him from the thrift store. Oh and I have never seen anyone more pumped on popeyes then that dude, dang! We also had Louis join us camping which was a blast and we had the pleasure of watching him wrangle a snake probably almost as cool as if we had a camping bachelor party with strippers. Another stand out would be Adrians first real rail hope probably a 7 stair with a mustache and Dow did a real good rail ride on a flat rail. I think Dows stepping it up. Oh well anyways it was a blast and I will make an edit with the footage when I get back from Paris and when I buy some legit software to edit with. I want to thank everyone that went, Geoff, louis, Adrians mustache and the locals for showing us around and shredding with us.

It seems people have been pretty stoked on the updates on the site so I will try to keep them coming at a regular pace. It may not always be BMX related but I guess it's better than nothing.
So up first is a Daily Photo-type deal. Last night I was looking around my fridge trying to find something to eat. I didn't have all the ingredients for chicken cordon-bleu so I decided to try something similar. What you are looking at would probably kill both Jon and Jes with a single look (they are both vegetarians if you didn't know)
That mountain of a meal is a chicken breast stuffed with sun-dried tomato roasted turkey and pepperjack cheese. It is topped with more pepperjack and bacon. Somewhere in there is an iceberg lettuce wedge salad (YAY VEGGIES!) topped with bleu cheese and bacon bits. What it lacks in nutritional value it made up for ten-fold in taste.
So there you have it, another post that has nothing to do with the world of BMX. Beggars can't be choosers, you get what you get, etc. There seems to be some good discussion in the comments on the BREC park update post. Get in there and let us know what you think.

BR Skatepark Update
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 12:37PM
I went by the Perkin Rd. park this afternoon to check up on the construction of the concrete park. I couldn't believe my eyes. The park is looking SICK, and they seem to be making really good progress on the concrete work. I took a few pics so check them out.
(Click on pic to go big)
This is the deep bowl/pool. This picture was taken from the Velodrome facing Kenilworth Parkway. You can kinda see the football stadium in the background. The pic doesn't do this thing justice. It is going to be pretty burly-the shallow end looks about 6 ft. deep with the deeper end (foreground) being somewhere in the 8-9 ft. range. Pool coping all around, tight flat bottoms and steep trannys means this will be pretty tough on a bike. I know the bowl skaters are psyched though.
Another shot of the pool, take from the other side. You can see the side of the Velodrome in the background. You can also sort of tell how deep the deep end is-you can't see the bottom in this pic.
This is what I am most excited about. During the planning process they guys from SITE call this the "flow bowl". It is a pretty good size, about 3 times bigger than the pool in the first 2 pics, although not as deep. You can see several hips and bowl corners, as well as an over-vert pocket (right side of pic with coping elevated off the ground). It looks like the far side will be around 6' deep, with the middle and near side going a little deeper. They haven't gotten started on the concrete work yet-it looks like this will be the last thing to get poured. This thing looks pretty rad for bikes. You can see the start of the street section in the background, including a sweet looking pyramid grind ledge. I couldn't get any pics of the street course because they were pouring concrete and I didn't want to piss anyone off.
This is the rock-climbing wall. I know, "What does rock-climbing have to do with a skatepark?". According to the Master Plan put together by BREC, the rockwall will be the focal point of the park. It will be the center of the park, and everything else will be built around it. It is basically located where the fence for the BMX track used to run, closer to the signup booth. You can also see the street section of the park to the left of the rock wall. From what I could see they have already poured a good bit of smaller, mellow transitions, and they were working on pouring some stairsets with rails and ledges.
I also heard that the ABA was going to be in town this week to work on rebuilding the BMX track. They had some pretty heavy machinery out there and from the looks of it the track will be massive. It looked like they had the first straight roughed out. The first berm was a good 3-4 feet taller than it used to be... that's pretty huge. I also heard the track is going to be pretty long (think Swampland BMX if you can remember that far back), and they MAY be putting in a pro section. `
Overall I was blown away by the amount of work that has been going on over at the park. It looks like the place is going to be pretty big (not Louisville big but a damn good size park). Honestly, I couldn't believe this is actually being built in Baton Rouge. A lot of people have put in a lot of time and effort to make this place a reality, so hats off to all the people involved in the process.
On a side note, I also heard a rumor that people have been sneaking in to ride the park. There are signs posted saying the park is closed and that trespassers will be prosecuted. Please do everyone a favor and wait to ride the park when it is open. I know its hard to look at such a nice park and have to wait, but it will be best in the long-run if people just be patient and wait for it to open. People in this town have been working on this for a really long time-waiting another few months won't kill us. (Thanks for listening to my preaching)

Mickey Gaidos did all of the production and it all top-notch. Not to mention Terry's riding being the main focus. If you are in the NO area or anywhere nearby go out to Canal Place and check this video out!

Heres Brock Gomez's espn edit of that amazing school we rode last weekend. The video pretty awesome too.
“Anyone who has been to Southern Louisiana can tell you that the landscape is completely flat; some parts of New Orleans are even below sea level. On top of that the state is losing coastal wetlands at an estimated 25-35 square miles per year. These factors have forced people in the coastal areas to adapt their building methods to accommodate the rising waters of floods and hurricanes. The spot featured in this video is a prime example of how the architects and engineers in the area are dealing with the rising waters. A by product of these construction methods is a perfect street spot hidden deep in the swamplands. Unfortunately, in another decade or so this spot may be underwater.” -Brock Gomez
